A woman is forced to cross her own and other people’s boundaries in order to feed her family.
Unemployment leads her to the world of the dumpster divers – a world full of filled dumpsters and amazing food.
It is the story about her relationship with her teenage son and the man she falls in love with by the dumpster.
It is the story about food waste, shame, taboos, and delicious products.
Please note that the play is in Danish.
The story behind the play
For more than two years director Hanne Trap Friis has accompanied a woman from the dumpster diving environment in Aarhus on her nightly “raids”. Hanne Trap Friis has gotten an insight into the world that exists in the darkness by the dumpsters. A world with loads of good food, taboos, idealism, food waste, poverty, generosity, and amazing human encounters around the “garbage bin”. A story of a world that needs to be told!
MADness is built upon a woman’s report and shows a side of Denmark that contrasts with our fast paced, materialistic society. MADness opens up for a yet unknown world, the play warms, surprises, provokes, and astonishes, and invites you into a food universe filled with unvarnished truths and prejudice.
